    electric choke question

I have a 1988 Mercury 90 hp outboard and before you try to push the key in to activate the electric choke all 3 carb "flaps" are already closed. When you go to start the motor shouldn't the flaps be open then you push the key in and that closes them? Thanks

Ran out of gas now runs poorly

I have a 1987 Glastron 175 speed boat with a gas tank in the hull and a 1988 mercury 90 hp outboard. I ran out of gas and after filling the tank back up it won't go over 5 mph without contnually squeezing the primer ball evey 30 seconds or so, and then it runs fine. Any ideas? Thanks,Rodney

This is the # they said was the serial # but I can't find that in any reference...
