    mercury 40hp won't start

    I have a 40 hp mercury that won't start,but if I spray gas in the carb it starts and runs fine.I disassembled the carb and cleaned it. The primer bulb and fuel lines seem ok.Could my problem be in the engine?

    I have a 1982 mercury out board that won't idle. I can use the cold start button on my control to increase the throttle and it starts but when I bring the control lever back to neutral it stalls.I changed the gas,cleaned out the carb,and changed the spark plugs,but it still won't idle.     mercury starting problems

    I have a 1983 40hp mercury engine that is hard to start. If I take the spark plugs out it cranks fine, but with the plugs in it seems to lock up. Sometimes it starts but it won't idle. Thanks.
