    Lower unit shifting question

    I have a 1968 Mercury 9.8hp that i just bought. When i took it out, I had to put in reverse to go forward and forward to go reverse based on the markings on the side. Could someone have put the lower unit together wrong, has anyone heard of this? Thanks Randy

    1975 Merc 200 20 hp Won't Start

    Hello, I am looking for some direction on my merc. It has great spark and I just rebuilt the carb. It pulls hard with the plugs in and much harder than my buddys 9.8 merc. It won't even attempt to start. What are my next test? Thanks for any help you can provide. Randy
