    Power loss at 3000 RPM

1999 5.7 Volvo GSI DP. One of the injectors shuts down at 3000 rpm. Runs fine up to 3000 rpm then goes to idle. I throttle down and then can throttle back up. Runs fine otherwise. Swapped the injectors and they work fine. The only other info is I had to jump the battery to get it running the...

    High RPM in neutral

1999 Volvo 5.7 GSI DPSM Runs fine, however occasionally when shifted back into neutral it revs to 1600-1800 and won't back down. Shut it off, restart and it is back to normal RPM. Since its returns to normal after shutting off it seems like a sensor and not something sticking? Any thoughts?

    Volvo outdrive drain plug oring

1999 Volvo DPS. Where is the correct location for the oring on the drain plug behind the props? Should it be flush up against the very top, or in the grove just after the threads?

Heavy oil leak (oil pressure sender?)

1999 Volvo 5.7 GSI DPSM on a Chaparral 23 SSI Started for the first time this year and after 4 minutes of running had several quarts of oil in the bildge. The oil spray seems to be coming from a 1 inch round nipple at the back bottom of the engine by the oil filter (a wire is dangling next to...

    Circulating pump bad?

1999 Volvo GSI. How often do circulating pumps or their bearing go bad? My problem is that my belt is producing a ton of dust. Everything seems fine, but there is a slight movement in the circulating pump pulley (very slight) and you can hear it if you spin it with the belt off . Not sure if...

    Swimplatforms.com

I am interested in any opinions or experiences with platforms purchased through Scott at swimplatforms.com. Specifically if anyone put one on with a duoprop. I have a 1999 2330 Chaparral with Volvo 5.7 DP and wanted to verify clearance. Seems to allow for full rise of outdrive and extends...

    Replacing trim cylinder

1999 Volvo 5.7 GSI with Duo Prop Trim cylinder leaking where the rod goes through the end cap. Apparently I have to replace as they are unrepairable. Some water entered the system and is slightly milky. Pump needed a bump to start running a couple of times after sitting for a long period...

Compression numbers with a bad riser

Found some water in the engine oil with little if any in the cylinders noticeable. Compression was consistent all around with the exception of one cylinder near the riser was 25 less. Is this consistent with a leaking riser? Would a bad riser lower compression in one cylinder? A 5.7 volvo...

    Forgot spark plug wrench

I was winterizing my 1989 Mariner 175 outboard this past weekend and forgot my spark plug wrench so I was unable to spray fogging fluid into the plug holes. I was wondering how vital of a step that was in the process and if I should make the 100 mile trip back down to the shore to do it. I...

Loss of RPMs while under load

First time out this season my 1989 Laguna with 1989 175hp Merc serial c127467 was sluggish and wouldn't go over 3000 rpm under load (revs fine in neutral). Also, all of the gauges intermitently work, as they go goofy every so often. All fuel related checks were ok but found a bad spark wire...

    plugs fouling

I have a 1989 175 Merc, #C127467, which had previously been missing its top end. It wouldn't go above 4000 rpm except for 3 to 4 second random intervals. After searching the archives (a great source of info) I began with the easiest and decarbed with Valvtech, installed new t-stats, new plugs...

    Replacing trim motor/pump

I have a 1989 175 Mariner outboard serial c127467 with the tilt and trim not working. I jumped the motor to the battery and nothing. So I need to replace the motor. From my research, I don't believe they make a replacement motor anymore but have to buy the motor and pump combined from ARCO...

    Water inside motor

I have a 175 hp 1989 Merc/Mariner, it actually says Sea Ray on the outside, it is on a 21' Laguna. After running the motor for a while water seems to collect in the bottom of the inside of the motor, under the plugs, maybe 2-3 cups worth. I would tilt up and it would flow out. I ran it with...

    Trouble starting my Merc outboard

This should be an easy one. I appologize for being a novice.<br />I just bought a boat with a 1989 175 Mercury outboard. I am having difficulty starting it. I am not sure if my procedure is incorrect or if I should look deeper into the motor. I prime the motor with the bulb until firm, pump...
