Black Scorpion 5.7 / Thunderbolt V coil wire

Winterizing my inlaws 04 Malibu LXI yesterday and we were replacing the plug wires, cap/rotor. Snapped the end off the coil end of the coil wire but got the stub out. Unfortunately the new set came with 2 coil wires and neither style works with the coil on this motor. Motor is a 2004 Mercury...

    Quick tire change

Had a tire peel its tread off last week on the way home from vacation, luckily we had a spare and the stuff to change it. Ordered a replacement up right away from etrailer (one of the few places I can get the size/load I need). Showed up today, 30 minutes later we are ready to go again. All you...

    Today at the boat ramp

Not sure what to say other than that they should sell tickets to that show, It was like a holiday weekend since it was the first weekend without full lake no wake since June.

Finally got to ski behind the new boat

Living in the land of 10,000 no wake zones has been a bit tough on the skiing this year. Finally got to ski behind the new boat a couple weeks ago by driving up to Lake Vermilion on vacation. My .02, at 32 MPH I didn't notice a wake difference between my 2012 VTX and my FIL's 2004 RLXI. There...

First trip of the year, with the new boat

OK, my turn to admit to several stupid human tricks today Took the VTX out for its first trip since we bought it. Balmy 50 degrees and 15mph wind on Minnetonka. Backed it in to the water and started it up. Quick check of the engine compartment showed I had some water spraying from somewhere...

Off with its new owner today. It was in nearly perfect shape after 9 years of use by us. Hopefully the new owners will enjoy it and take care of it.

    2005 Mercruiser 3.0 compression

What should I expect to get when doing a compression test on a 2005 3.0L? I'm assuming somewhere around 150-160 psi? Have a potential buyer who wants a compression check done, which is fine but doesn't help a lot if I don't know what the expected range is.

Next seasons boat, now the waiting

Just closed the deal on our boat for next season. 2012 VTX with 85 hours or so. Still need to sell the Bayliner, but that should go pretty easy in the spring. Now I can just stare at pictures until spring when we can actually use it.

Best online locations to sell boat?

Getting ready to put my Bayliner up on the market - upgrading to a V-drive for next season. In your experience, what are the best online places to put a boat - aside from your local CL. While it is in excellent shape, I realize that nobody is going to drive cross country for it - so listings...

    Ooh, new toy

I'm an intermediate skier on a good day and I've been switching between a 69" KD powercarve and a 69" Obrien Evidence for the past bunch of years. They are extremely forgiving since I'm about 180 and they are way oversized for my weight. Been trying to get good enough to get into a course and...

3.0L vs 4.3L motor mount locations

I'm pretty sure the answer is keep dreaming, but does anyone know if the standard 3.0L mounting is the same as a 4.3L mounting location?

    Tougher spare carrier

Broke another one of these yesterday, the 400 miles of towing a few weeks ago must have vibrated it enough to crack it at the welds. Fulton Hi-Mount, Bolt-On Spare Tire Carrier STC1000101 - iboats Anyone ever used this one or have another alternative that will hold up? F2 Heavy Duty Trailer...

Might be time for a new boat

My 05 Bayliner is in nearly mint condition, space wise it is fine but as the kids have gotten older and heavier (and I've just gotten older) I'm having a tougher time getting up on 1 ski behind it. Its fine once up but the little 3.0L just hasn't got as much power as I'd like. If I could just...

It a miracle - or not

Getting ready to put the boat in tomorrow for the first time this year. Put it away just before Halloween and this will be the latest we have ever been in. Changed the plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter and oil. Cranked it a couple times and once the fuel system filled back up, it started...

1st day of waterskiing in MN this year - March 16th

1st day of waterskiing in MN this year - March 16th My son didn't have quite as much luck as I did and got to take a swim. Each round you make it, they move the start line closer to the pond and you go again. Nobody completed the 3rd round, so it came down to distance. I came up a couple feet...

What are the worst 3 vehicles you have ever owned.

Just for fun 1) 1984 Cavalier Type 10 - burned almost as much oil as gas and that was one of its good points 2) 1980 Chevette - My first car - primer grey on the outside with a red interior that had faded to pink. Especially gutless since it actually had an automatic trans. 3) 1995 Chrysler...

    Trick ski question

Couple probabally simple questions. I picked up this used trick ski for me and the kids to mess around with. Tried it out today with ok results. - which foot is supposed to go forward with the bindings set like this? My kid thought left foot, but with the angle of the rear there was no way...
