    Electronic trim issue

My electric trim has a mind of it's own. ;It's a 1993 mercury 150hp xr6. Has a 3 way toggle at the bow, one in the throttle lever, and one on the cowl. First trip out this weekend since August and running down the lake at 55mph and it started trimming up on its own. ;Had to shut her down. I had...

    1995 XR6 150HP hard to start

I just changed fuel lines and fuel filter and it seems to be a bit hard to start after it sits for a few days. Bulb is new, primes great but seems to take 10 minutes to get the carbs primed. It has been in the 40's in the morning so it's quite a bit cooler than it has been. Any ideas as to...

    7000 RPM Bad Tach?

1995 Merc 150 XR6--25P Pro V prop on a 1991 Ranger 354V. Dropped my wife off at the ramp and headed back out to run the motor wide open. Water had some chop--so I was running WOT trimming up to get the speed-looked at water pressure and it was perfect (18psi) glanced at the tach--and it was...

    Blue fuel line?

I know for the ethanol fuel that you should use the grey line with the blue lettering but my Merc guy's distributor is supplying solid blue hose? He says you can't use zip ties on it and have to use a clamp to get it to seal. Do any of you know anything about this blue hose? Thanks in advance

    Rear end stepping out

I fished 2 crappie tournaments this weekend so I ran the boat all out both days (biggest workout it has had ever) Lots of turbulent water due to boat traffic and some wind maybe 10mph or less. Well while running all out every now and the the rearend would step out a bit (kinda like in a race...

    Merc 150xr6 knocked up

I hit a mud flat today going about 25mph-which knocked the engine up (like the old kickup) out of the water-I shut it down within 1 second or so. The bottom was compacted clay and it looked like the bullet hit first then the skeg (bullet had a wad of clay on it and skeg had skid mark on both...

    Not a good day

I've been spending the last month and a half on a lake taking recordings and studying them (learning the lake, depth, structure, etc) This lake is a COE lake and is 5 to 6 feet below where it is supposed to be right now. I had a partner with me (first time with me in the boat)--so we went to...

Factory new what they were going

Thought this was interesting. My 21 year old Ranger originally had two transducers in the bilge--one for a flasher and one for a FF (not sure what kind). Well when I got the boat the units those ducers were for didn't work but no big deal--I put new stuff on it. Well first--the old ducers are...

    Screw or no Screw

I have a Ranger 354V (glass boat) and decided to pull all the extra junk off of the transom. Had a Speedo pickeup and a temp transducer. i filled the holes in with 5200 but was thinking about putting screws back in the holes I can (with more 5200) for a better seal on the holes that are thru...

    Wet plugs

Ok--so I changed my plugs today--all 6 looked great--no carbon build up, evenly burned--but all were wet? When I last ran the engine on dec. 8th I pulled the fuel hose and let it run until the engine died, cranked a couple more times to get it to start to burn anymore fuel out--done. I figured...

So what would be the best anti seize for plugs on a Merc 150 XR6? Lithium or copper based? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Bought new-used plugs?

Picked up 6 plugs today for my Merc 150 XR6. Got a good deal 3.29ea but at the shop they had put them in a motor--but never been fired--I guess somebody decided they didn't want them. Reason I say they hadn't been fired is they have zero residue, discoloration. Does anyone think this was a...

    Ranger 354V facelift

Well I started today on the facelift--new carpet, seats, etc. Got all the lids off, took every thing off of the boat--rails, TM, fish finders, hot foot, floor grates, etc. This boat is 20yrs old and no issues with the floor at all except on the very front deck--a couple of soft spots (I will...

Starting the boat work this weekend

Well I've figured out I am going to compound the boat once I have all the carpet out and lids off. Would it be the best to remove the rails from the cap of the boat or would it be fesable to work around them? Does anyone have any thoughts--here is a crap pic--will have better from a real...

Very good procedure for changing lower unit lube

http://www.nitroowners.com/projects/lowerunit/lowerunitproject.htm The above link may be a duplicate (sorry for a double dip) but I remembered I had it saved on my browser. I and changing mine right now (36 degrees outside and going to be in the 20's for a good 10 to 13 hours at night for the...

150 Merc XR6 idling in gear

Would there be any problems (or cause any problems) just idling in gear with a xr6? I have done this for a mile or so with no ill effects-but have only done this once-after which I ran it out wot with no issues-no hesitation or anything. Just wondering if doing this could damage the motor--it...

    Good Prop Shop?

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a good prop shop? I have one more trip to make to the lake this year before I put her down for the winter and start taking things apart (for new carpet, lower unit oil change, mount battery charger, fix prop, etc.) I've run the prop since August and need...

    Trailer hit at the ramp

I took my wife fishing yesterday(was her first real fishing trip--and she caught more than me) everything went well but when I got home and was parking the boat I noticed a side light was gone. I looked a bit more and the fender just behind the right wheel well was broken in two places--what...

    Stuck in the yard

I went to hook up my boat last night and wouldn't you know it--I got stuck in the yard. Where I have to park my boat is on a slope and has lots of pea gravel (under the very thin layer of topsoil)--the idiots that owned the property before me dug a huge water pit and just used gravel to level...
