    1990 AQ271 DP 290 won't trim under power

    My AQ271 DP 290 won't trim up or down when I am under way but I can trim up or down out of gear. I have no leaks at my cylinders. It does hold its trim position under way under load it does not creep down in storage. I can get on plane with my trim tabs.

    My distributer is very hot and when it gets hot it runs rough above 1500 rpm.before I replace the senser cap and rotor.any other reason for this to happen.

    Any one use after market coil,mallory,seirra? There web sites don't cross part numbers to well. Is there a mercruiser coil that will work? Part numbers would help a lot. I do not have points or a balist resistor.

    got a new caltric starter for my aq271. Its smaller but will bolt up but its drive gear has 11 teeth stock unit has 9. Is there an off set to account for this. anyone use one ?

    1990 aq 271,dp290 sterring fork broke off under trottle !

    Just as I came up on plane hit about 30 mph my sterring fork broke off at the shaft /stem that the arm mounts on. Put us on a hard 180 turn till I yanked the throttle back.     re-torque head after 20 hrs ? 3.0 litre

    Replaced the head with reman and after 20 hr your to re-torque the head bolts? Many repowered boats in my area this is never done. is it realy nessasary? By the way the engine runs great I would hate to do all that work to just blow a head gasket!
