    too much voltage?

In recently purchased '89 SeaRay 160 w/ 100hp outboard, dash voltage gauge shows 17.5 to 18 volts when I'm running around 3000rpm. Seems unusually high based on my experience with other vehicles, but this is my first outboard. Should I be concerned, and if so what to troubleshoot?

    Confusing cooling issue...

Inaugural launch yesterday of '89 SeaRay with Merc 100hp outboard. After starting, I was running the motor for a while to warm it up. As I pulled slowly away from the dock, I realized the temperature (on dash gauge) was getting high, approaching 220. As I increased the RPM a bit, the gauge...

oil injection on circa 1989 Sea Ray 100

I just purchased a Sea Ray 160 with a 100hp outboard from 1989 or 1990. The outboard has Sea Ray logos but I believe these were made for Sea Ray by Mercury. It has only 300-some hours and runs fine, though a bit hard to start after sitting. A neighbor much more knowledgeable about boats...

    Perplexing electrical issue

Under way last week, thought we smelled something like burning plastic, then voltmeter started jumping all around. Killed motor to look around, and it would not restart. Not even the gauges moved. No sign of any electrical power. Never pinpointed the smell, but it seemed to be coming from under...

Strange new water leak in sterndrive

After along outing yesterday, pulled boat out this morning and put the drive in a fresh tank to rinse out the salt water. When I cranked it I noticed it wasn't bubbling up the water in the tank like it usually does, and when I peered over the transom to see what was up, I saw this strong jet of...

Tilt solenoid issue or bad wiring?

Hi. I have a 1980 Glasply with an OMC 120hp sterndrive. Previous owner told me the tilt switch was bad, but it worked for me a few times to lower and raise the sterndrive. Other times it failed to lift but would always lower. I just replaced the switch and I’m getting the same result: If I use a...
