    British Seagulls....funky but cool!

I remember seeing Seagulls pushing big sailboats around when I was a kid growing up in Florida. The people that owned them seemed to have nothing but good things to say about them. I thought one might make a cool restoration project. I've seen a few really nice ones and thought they were really...

I had to pass on the Lightwin.

I recently posted a thread about a 'Rude Lightwin I could pick up cheap. $75 to be exact. The guy that was going to sell it to me is a surgeon that has spent his entire career helping war victims. Apparently land mines don't know when a war is over. He was back home trying to raise money for...

How do you check spark on a 1 cyl. outboard?

Lacking a third arm, I am having a hard time holding the tiller, starter rope and plug at the same time. Any suggestions on checking spark all by my lonesome? Thanks, MJ.

Flathead Catfish! Any tips on catching them?

I recently moved to NW Arkansas and caught my first two flatheads while bluegill fishing. It tasted fantastic! Any tips on how to catch more of the ugly things? I caught them on a cane pole with worms from the backyard. I had 3 spinning outfits out that were baited with everything from chicken...

I used my Quantum rod twice and it broke third cast.

I bought my first Quantum rod last summer when I was living in Colorado and used it once. It used it once for river fishing. 5'6" UL with 4# test. I mostly fished lakes for big Mackinaws ( Lake trout ) so the rod got forgotten. Until this summer when I found myself in NW Arkansas. The rod broke...

Why were 70HP Johnson's so popular with mulletheads?

By mullethead I mean mullet fishermen(net boats) not the hair-don't. I was not clowning on our friends up north, eh. Anyway, I grew up in Pensacola, FL and it seemed like every trailerable work boat I ever saw in the 70's and 80's had a 70HP Johnson hanging off of it. Why is that? Were they...

What outboard do you wish you had never sold?

Are there any outboards you wish you could have back? What motor(s) would you most like to find at a garage sale(or wherever). I'm just wondering what you folks consider a "keeper". I'm sure most of you are going to say "all of them". Bigger Better Faster More! MJ

What should I use to repair holes in my skeg?

I guess this is technically a repair question but I'm gonna put it here anyway. The last owner of my 'Rude 1.5 Mate thought it was a good idea to drill a pair of 1/8" holes in the skeg and bolt a 4" x 1" x 1/4" piece of steel to it "to protect it from stumps". I thought about JB Weld to fill the...

Lawnmower gas cap on an outboard?

I'm having a beast of a time finding a gas cap for my old 'Rude 1.5HP Mate. Would a mower cap be an acceptable replacement? I figured I could JB Weld the chain to the bottom of it. Will it work or am I inviting problems? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, MJ.

    Evinrude 3HP Lightwin. Worth having?

I recently ran into a Lightwin in nice shape. It has been in storage for a while but I'm told it was running prior to storage. Would this be a motor worth putting some effort into if I can pick it up cheap. Everything appears to be well maintained but even if it is shot out I could still sell...

    1968Evinrude Mate1.5HP Engine Cowling

I recently picked up a 1968 1.5HP Evinrude Mate for $80.00. It's in excellent condition except for the plastic shroud. I would appreciate any info on finding one. Does anyone make rattle cans of touch-up paint? I know I should probably just run it as is but it won't take much to make this motor...

    1.5 hp evinrude mate

Can anyone tell me what year motor I have? The ser.# is 1802s-e03513. Any input or advice of any sort would also be appreciated. How do you know where to adjust the slow and fast knobs and when do you do it? My local JohnnyRude dealership only has time for big motors$$$. Are parts available...
