    I'd like to get some good advice on how to get the shift rod released from under the carbs. I've got a 2000 johnson 70 hp. It does not have a hex head bolt to release the shift rod. I've seen a release pin used in some other models but this one seems to be stuck. I've sprayed it with pb blaster...

    Sorry to be a pain but, how do you get to the hex-head up under the lower carb.? Do you need a special tool or do you have to remove the lower cowling cover?

    johnson 70 lower unit removal

    I'm new to this forum so please excuse any 'faux pas'. I'm trying to replace the water pump in my 2000 Johnson 70hp. for routine maintainence. I have the seloc manual but I am having a hard time finding out where the shift rod can be disconnected so I can drop the lower unit. Can anyone help?
