1989 90 hp new thermostats not opening- why not?

My old stats were acting intermittent so I replaced them but the new stats don't seem to be opening now. I put them in a pan of hot water to make sure they work and they do open @ about 150 degrees or so. If I start the engine, it warms up to 140-150 but the stats don't seem to open. If I wait...

    1941 Champion does backfire

I had mentioned how well this runs but one thing it does do is backfire but ONLY when starting it. I have tried different throttle level positions but so far it seems to do it regardless of where I set it. It has new plug, cleaned points, new gas. Once it starts up it runs smooth. I suspect...

    Water spray into exhaust tube

I have a 1941 Champion and if it's mounted next to my 90hp and if I tilt the Champion so I can use the 90hp water sprays into the exhaust tube of the Champion and I assume then could/will run into the engine. Is there a solution for this or can't I really use the Champion as a little trolling...

    Champion Motors Comany

My son was mowing a customers lawn mentioned the high cost of gas that our 90hp Rude consumes and she said that she had a small engine that never gets used. So he brought it home. It is a 1941 Challenger, on the manual it says Champion Model S1G-D1G. Our guess that it's been 10-20 years since it...

One lean cylinder 1988 90 HP

With the help of this forum I recently was able to troubleshoot and repair a mis-firing cylinder caused by the VRO leaking fuel back into the #4 cylinder. I however have another concern. I believe there is still another issue going on as well which I am not comfortable ignoring. The #1 cylinder...

89 90hp Rude missing on one cylynder

When running on the muffs all cylinders fire, no matter how long I let it run. I have had the cowling off when running on the muffs, if that could make any difference. In the water however, after warm up one cylinder, still has spark but does not fire at idle. I can tell because when I pull the...

    1989 90hp V4 Evinrude rough idle

The egine seems to run smooth at all higher RPM's and plugs run dry and light brown, but at idle speeds 3 of the 4 plugs run very wet and is a bit rough. Clearly one of the plugs runs pretty dry even at idle. If after running at idle, I open it up, it runs a bit rough but then clears out and is...
