    Third try different question

    When I crank my Merc 500 50 HP with the plugs removed and the timing light on it should I be reading TDC or somewhere close depending on where the dist advance is turned? Where should these engines start up at on the timing? I know a car will kickback if you have to much advance timing on them.

    I can get it running by taking the fast idle timing advance cable loose and working it and working the throttle plate on the advance to open the carb butterflies.
