    What is the function of a stator?

    What does the stator do on my 1972 Mercury 7.5 hp outboard? Will the motor run if it is defective? If it is defective, will it keep the motor from running well at full throttle? This is probably a dumb question, but I am a printer, not a mechanic.

    No top end on 7.5 Mercury

    I bought a used 1972 Mercury 75 (7.5 hp) which had set for several years. It looks like new, but I never could get it to run out.
