    what year is my 40hp mariner?

    I would like to know the year of my 40hp Mariner. serial # 6E9 L- 525078 Have been told it was made by Yamaha but there is a plate on the cowl cover that says genuine Mariner made in Ft.Worth Tx. I beleive they started being made by Yamaha in 1977. Any help would be appreciated.
