    1984 35hp merc lower unit and water pump

    Being a first timer at a waterpump replacement. I was wondering if the bottom of the lower unit has to come all the way apart to change the water pump? I removed the 5 bolts to allow the bottom to separate but it seems to only want to come apart about a 1/4". I didnt want to force anything apart...
