Ford Winsor 351 Engine not winterized

I believe marine plugs are brass and automotive are steel.

    Fuel smell after fueling up

Your boat is 23 years old, so I’d take a hard look at the hoses from the fill to the tank as well as the vent line. They can become permeable. Mine is 40 and I’ve replaced every flexible hose onboard.

N Y requires everyone to pass a powerboat operators license

Do you know if they will accept a boaters certificate from Md or NJ?

    Outboard wiring conduit

I had a dockmate who renovated his cruiser, and he used gray PVC electrical conduit as wire chases.

Should I buy a boat without a survey?

You posted: “I think it's a good boat if there are no major structural issues (with mast or hull) that I didn't see. Wonder how to "buy" this boat, take it to a surveyor, and then negotiate from there. I know that is not standard procedure though. Has anyone done something unusual like this in...

Bellow job question on Alpha 1 Gen 2 for DIY

I forget one more tool- not essential, but makes it waaaay easier to remove and hold the outdrive- a purpose-built outdrive jack! I decided to buy one just because I’ll need it soon to rehab a 23 footer sitting in my back lot.

Bellow job question on Alpha 1 Gen 2 for DIY

I just helped a friend do this last weekend. He used aftermarket items. Do yourself a huge favor and replace all 3 bellows (drive, exhaust and shift cable). In our case, only the shift cable bellow was damaged but we replaced all 3 while we were in there. FYI- the shift cable must be removed to...

Bimini top seems to have shrunk

I had custom Sunbrella covers made for my 34 footer 15 years ago. If I leave them down for a couple days they are VERY difficult to re-install. I found wetting them down works pretty well. I also have a special tool called the Top-Snapper that connects under the button and allows you to pull it...

New boat owners leaving the hobby

I’m in a similar situation. Have had our 34 footer for 21 years, I’m currently 68 and (fairly) healthy. We originally bought her to take at least one cruise per summer, but over the years they have reduced in length significantly due to a number of issues. With my age, I’m starting to wonder how...

    Going straight at low speed?

Not trim, but the real answer is: Twin engines with opposite rotations.

Rubberized or Epoxy undercarriage roll on for salt water trailer?

I hate to bust your bubble, but any overcoating applied to your trailer will not prevent rust long term. How do I know that? Well, I was the plant manager of an industrial powder coating operation. We had the best preparation system, used top notch materials, and our ovens could hard cure our...

How Do You Utilize Sliding Rear Window on Your Pickup

As a contractor, I often opened the slider to haul long lumber. My 4 door F150 has the “long“ (6’6”) bed, so even 16 footers would fit- with them sitting on the dash and hanging past the tailgate about 2’. Worked for me.

    Cabin Fever outbreak.

If you’re really that bored, come to my place and help me replace the water heater. Sprung a leak today so it has become my weekend project.

Best way to secure pistol in truck?

In my previous truck I installed a a small drop safe to the floor between the footwells. The door was hinged at the floor and opened on the drivers side. It contained my handgun, extra magazines and cash. As you can see, I put a plastic cup holder thing over it. I travelled in lots of ‘anti’...

    Don't know what I got

That looks like a 268 Sundancer. It was a popular boat back in the day with lots of interior space for its size. Look up the David Pascoe review to read his review. He can be brutal!

Welcome to iboats! Lots of knowledge here. Have you tried to adjust the trim? Sounds like the motor needs to trim down/in.

Advice needed on 12'-14' jon boat purchase.

Well FWIW, I’ve used a riveted 1448 Lowe on the Chesapeake for the last 15 years. Never had a leak but, then again, I don’t abuse it either. I think they're great boats.
