    70 hp Johnson compression

    I did a compression check on my 1980 johnson 70hp. The top two cylinders read 130# and number three read 125#. I pulled the head off too inspect the cylinders, and number one and two have some mild scoring(just enough to catch my finger nail). Do I need to correct this situation now or wait...

    short shafted

    I recently purchased a 14' ski boat as a project boat. It is an older Glasspar Marathon that needs a 15" outboard extension. The motor on the boat is a very nice running 1980 70hp Johnson with a 20" shaft. Would I be better off to try to swap shafts and all thats involved or to swap motors...

    cracked motor

    When looking for the exhaust leak on my 1980 70 hp Johnson I removed the split cover below the power head. The housing that bolts to the bottom of the power head is cracked all the way around. Is this something that can be fixed by welding or do I need to start looking for a good used housing?
