    That's what I initially thought but the sound definitely isnt near the starter and doesnt seem to be coming from around the flywheel housing... It definitely is odd.

    Is the main difference between these two basically a 4 barrel carb instead of a double barrel? Maybe this is stoopid but you can see where this is going..... can ya switch carbs?

    Get a new tachometer?

    '86 Cheetah 19ft 170 Merc... tach hasn't worked for years... needle is sitting in the bottom of the gauge :-( For prop experimenting and probably for just all around good maintenance and observation was wanting to get a new gauge for the dash... looking under there it looks like a ton of wires...
