    140hp 3.0 spark plugs

Hello, Going to do new- wires, cap, rotor & plugs on a 1984, 3.0 140hp. Current plugs in it are R43T Delco, which are 5/8", taper with non-extended tip. Is that the correct plug? If not, what is the recommended spark plug/part #, please? I tried the search feature but didn't have much luck...

    Exhaust boot

My apologies, I forgot to say thank you. Was a busy day and I did use the bellows on that one! Thanks, again! Rex

    Exhaust boot

Is there any performance difference between a boot, compared to bellows on exhaust? Putting a quicksilver gimbal kit on a friends v-6, alpha 1 and as I disassembled, I noted it has a boot. I'd like to get this done today but he's concerned he'll loose power. I did tell him we could leave the old...

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

I 'transplanted' the broken lower OMC unit with a rebuilt lower unit, though I did have to use some parts from the broken one. I didn't change drives, and the volvo drive I mentioned, is another boat. Sorry to confuse.

Just an update. Definitely different than Merc units, but had successful transplant, at least on muffs. River test Sat. Thank you all for the help. Next up is a Volvo!

Roger that. On a quick look back at the replacement, I see no shift cable protruding from it. Oops.

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

Ok, did a little google work and now that I've seen pics of the lower unit and the replacement section, they do look similar. All sorts of differences over the years, electric shift, etc. I'm going to tell them to bring it (171 miles, one way) to me and I'll have a look see, but no guarantee I...

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

Ok. Wasn't going to repair, just replace assuming the replacement lower unit they got with the boat, is a match.

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

They sent me a pic of the drive. No numbers, they say. Where are numbers on OMC? Thank you!

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

Supposedly has an OMC service manual for pre-88 (?) outdrives with it. Guess we'll see what we see when it shows up. Thank you.

That was one of the things that bothered me about that unit. He said the color matched the one on the boat but, if you look closely at the picture, it looks gray, under a quick rattle can spray job.

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

Thank you. That's the only picture I have, the one of the replacement. The seller told the buyer it isn't a Cobra and the outdrive replacement matched but again won't know till they get me the boat. I did tell them to look for model on outdrive and the engine.

    1986 V-6 OMC repairs.

Hello. Have not posted for about 10 years but have been asked to help with an OMC outdrive, which I have never touched. Over the last 10 years I've worked on a number of Mercruiser units. Have not got model/ser # yet but since it's a 1986, I'll assume it's not a Cobra? The outdrive was working...

    Alpha 1, 2 gimbal housing

I have a 92 mercruiser outdrive that starts with 'OF....' that has some corrosion where the drive boot attaches on the gimbal housing. I have access to another gimbal that starts with 'OK.....' which according to my book is the 96-97 unit. Are the gimbal housing's compatible? Thank you. 1991...

    Mercruiser 470

Well, back again to pester the forum pros with probably simple question. This time I need to know, is the outdrive on a 470 the same through hull bolt pattern, size, etc. as the 4.3 on the '91 Bayliner I acquired? My 120 Mercruiser purchase fell through but I was contacted by a local who has a...

    Early powertrain swap.

Hi, New member poster here. Come from boating family and have worked on cars/boats for many years. Hopefully I won't have to pester with too many questions but this in relation to a 'deal' I found. I bought a very nice, used, galvanized tandem ezyloader trailer, that I thought I'd use for my...
