    Power trim problems 84 johnson

Now that I am home I will remove the motor assembly as although the motor runs in forward and reverse, no pressure is being built up. There was no air or water in the system either, as I did drain the oil and even removed the trim rams to see if there was anything damaged. I will keep you posted...

    Power trim problems 84 johnson

Yes, tried this and got nowhere with it as I know how to bleed them. May just remove the lines to the rams to see if they will drop after this. I am in a semi remote area so cell and internet service weak. If I can get the trim to drop I can use the motor properly and then rip things apart once...

    Power trim problems 84 johnson

If I recall, after replacing seals once previously, the trim rods should compress easily if no pressure exists.. I.e if I drain all the fluid. I would have also thought that the pressure relief valve would allowed this too.

    Power trim problems 84 johnson

I attempted to cycle it but other than hearing the motor for the lift running, nothing was moving. I would think that even with a failed unit, the trim could be bypassed.

    Power trim problems 84 johnson

Hi all, I use my boat a few weeks a season and this is one of them. Put the boat in the water and used it for two days and when I went to lift the engine with the power tilt I could hear it but nothing was happening. 1984 Johnson 75hp. At shore I used the pressure relief valve, raised the...

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

Just to update this thread, I finally got the necessary parts and put things back together. It fired up nicely and I was able to get it to idle lower than I ever remember it being able to idle. I couldn't do much with it in a garbage can so when we actually used it on the water it started...

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

So I have been taking my time with this and tore the carb apart to find the disintegrating cork float as well as some other things that were not quite right. I cleaned it all up and started putting it back together with the new parts and when I got to the low speed jet, something didn't look...

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

Took the flywheel off and everything looks good. The coil has an outer appearance like it is new. I think I will leave this all intact for now and just grab a carb kit. The flywheel is easy enough to pop off so if I want to go back I can easily do the points and condenser.

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

I have to be careful what I do with this motor right now as my wife is not aware I have it in the house :) but there is no way I can work on it outside and my garage isn't heated either. Got a late start at looking at it Going to be at least another month before we maybe get above zero...

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

And this was what I was trying to determine whether it was an issue or simply coincidence. There is no doubt that the engine struggled and got bogged down with lily pads, but further inspection of the cooing system demonstrated not only no blockages, but no evidence anything had been sucked up...

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

Correct, not much that can go wrong but when something does go wrong, you are hooped. I have found that the vast majority of the small engine issues I experience, whether lawnmower, garden tractor, tiller, or small outboard, are as a result of a dirty carb. I do blame some of it on fuel...

    2 HP Evinrude, late 70s-early 80s

Hi, I should have posted this a few months earlier but I thought I would have the time to actually look at the motor before it got too cold. In the summer we took this motor down a pretty weedy waterway and it was so bad that the motor would stall out and it wasn't clear, but appeared as though...

    Fuel mixture

Hi, this should be an easy one for many of you. I want to know what the correct fuel mixture is for a couple of motors. A mid-to-late 60s Johnson 5HP Seahorse and a 1979 15HP Evinrude. The mixture of 50:1 seems to keep coming back to me but I would swear that one of the mixtures was 20:1 or...

    Interchangeable parts????

I have a 1979 Evinrude 15 HP motor with model # 15904E and serial # C7050179. I am looking for a bottom end and wanted to know what will fit this motor. Horsepower wise, will a 9.9 fit or anything greater than 15 HP? Will a few years fit or is it the same bottom end for a decade? Thanks in...
