I don’t care if I come in second, third, or more. Actually if I’m in third, I’m the first person in that position. That would make me the first person in third place, so I am first in that position?
Sounds lik your alternator is bad, but I would be removing and cleaning all battery connections completely, in clouding the grounds on the block. Get a hand held test meter, charge the battery fully, test battery before starting, then test after startup, you should get 13-14 volts from the...
Welcome to the Apostle islands. A 21’ isn’t too bad for the area, but be sure to check the weather often! It changes in a heartbeat! Where do you plan on launching from?
Wow, that motor is toast. We had a customer last fall that called and asked if his boat was winterized yet. Temps had dropped to 25* for a day or so. We checked his haulout paperwork, and he had not checked any of the boxes for winterizing the motor, or water system. He was mad, said when you...
Yup take a bazillion pictures. I also took tons of measurements and drew a picture of where every thing was, so when replacing stuff it went back where it was, instead of crappy wood for the stringers I used marine plywood bonded together and slightly wider than factory. Be sure to cradle the...
While it’s apart you could seal the transom opening, install a vacuum pump and pull the moisture out that y can’t see. Surface moisture drys easily, deeper down it doesn't.
.
Yeah, that cavity needs to be cleaned out, and the drain hole. Split thedrive to do it. I’ve se a few like that, it won’t bother anything but if it gets worse it could.
We have heated storage in our marina, just where are you at?
I’ve seen a few that have passed surveys, then when the boat shows up on a truck, we unload it and spot things wrong before it ever hits the water. Some aren’t to bad, some require thousands to make right. Nothing against surveyors...
An air stapler takes very little air. I use a small two gallon air compressor with my stapler and air rivet gun. You can do alot of stapling with a small compressor.
just don’t tell the brother in law you got another compressor.
Cudos to you for helping on what could have been a bad situation. I towed in a boat that I saw the guy paddling with a canoe paddle, his engine died, but at least it was on a calm lake. Turned out it was the same guy that rescued me the winter before, I slid off the road on some ice and was...
I bought an air powered stapler for this task. Really saves the fingers! I used painters plastic over the foam, really helps with stretching the vynal over the foam. I didn’t use the plastic when I put the new seat cover on my sxs, lesson learned, now of it rains I get a wet ass from water that...
Well yes, if you have to remove the engine to access the area, go ahead. How about a few pictures of the engine area, before disassembly? Sometimes removing seats and other stuff gives you access and a lot of that has to come out to make engine removal easier anyway.
Start by drilling some 1/4” holes from the inside of the transom, starting at the bottom As close as you can to the housing. If shavings come out black and squishy, it’s got rot. Work your way up, out and such till you come out with clean shavings. That will give you an idea how much rot there...
Is there any panels that open? Most have an opening hatch, or step that will pull up. You might be dealing with a plugged limber hole or bad pump in that area. I know some bayliners sit lower in the bow So a bilgepump is needed there.I would be checking the aft bilge also, and any hoses...
Mine looked good also. I pulled it down anyway, sure enough it had a crack in the gasket. It won’t let water into the hydraulic oil, that’s a basically sealed system.
The ship in the background is the Edgar Speer. I have a friend who is on that. They were holed up by Saint Marie waiting out the storm for a couple days!
