    building a mini speedboat

The specs I'm finding on that rib say its 9'3" with a max of 10HP. I'm not so sure I'd be tossing twins on that. Kinda sounds like a bad idea.

N Y requires everyone to pass a powerboat operators license

You can argue semantics if you want, but fact of the matter is this is the first year everyone is required to have one operating a power boat or PWC. Last year, I could still operate my boat without a cert. So new requirement. A few years ago, it was PWC operators only. At that time DEC said...

    Snapped seat bolt

Ok hear me out on this... On my Trans Am, the rear seat area had to be patched - T-tops and under the rear seat acted like a bucket so to say it rusted is an understatement. Anywho...idiot body shop #1 replaced the pan but didn't reinstall the nut that the seat belt attaches to. I got some...

N Y requires everyone to pass a powerboat operators license

https://parks.ny.gov/boating/education.aspx BTW...this is a new requirement for ALL operators this year. Our instructor said to expect being checked for your cert and safety gear.

Thinking of trading deck boat for jet boat

Still wouldn't touch em. Couldn't pay me enough to take one. Next boat, and I'm already half-heartedly shopping, is a used 16-18' aluminum Sylvan/Starcraft/etc w/outboard. Going to be the kids boat to take out fishing leaving my boat for the grown ups. My oldest can get his boaters certificate...

Thinking of trading deck boat for jet boat

I wouldn't. I like being able to steer with the outdrive in N. You lose all steering when you stop powering a jet. But that's just me...and watching a few youtube videos of Black Point Marina. Long live Fred :)

    Fish Finder Menu Map

I think the OP is looking for an owners manual that says something like.... To adjust the screen brightness, press button 1, followed by button 2, then button 1 again.

Free boat with history of leak... worth it? Will a survey catch issues?

Well.... You could take it on, then do due diligence to determine where the leak was and how far the damage is. Then if needed, scrap the boat and sell off the trailer for a bit of $$. But for me and my family....it wouldn't see or sniff water before I determined it was structurally sound...

    Boat budget question

Could get a quote from a pro. Then pay yourself for each hour spent in labor... Adds to the boat funds right?

    Bayliner Floor Project

If the floor is soft, the bulkheads are cracked, there's every chance the motor mounts are suspect and the transom is toast. You got lucky the last time you were out. What are the chances that luck is going to continue without rebuilding the major structural components of the boat...

Back for More! Looking into a bigger boat for big water - Deck or other

I'd suggest a center console but you're looking at a tow vehicle upgrade. Toon will do fine provided the St Lawrence river is calm. When it kicks up, and it will, you will want something else that can handle the waves...or even that from a passing freighter.

What's your best "MacGyver it" boat, non-boat story?

Way back when...you know when AMC made the Eagle, first 4x4 car? My grandfather, GM fleet mechanic, had one and took it to CT. Well the engine mount failed. His solution? Find some of the tire scraps along side the interstate and lob it in there to keep the engine from rotating in the engine...

    Bayliner Floor Project

I have Seadek on my swim platform. Installed in 2018 and only have a few spots starting to lift. I may "limp" it by with some 3M double sided adhesive tape as it was rather costly to have custom made. Other than that, there are no rips/tears in it whatsoever. Easily a good 20 degrees cooler on...

    Finally happened Toasted a T-motor $$$

Mine came with a Motorguide. Seals started going a year or two ago. I'm going to run it into the ground then replace. Everything I've seen for my setup is either fob or foot pedal controlled and into the $1k price range. Depending on where that's manufactured...tariffs might come into play so...

What kind of damage from an I/O in salt water for 2-3 years?

Boat house?? I could see that happening. At least they're fairly prevalent up in the areas I frequent.

    Required Safety Course

Just went through the NY class. NY will honor (reciprocal) a FL card as long as you are in state less than 90 days. That covers the snowbirds for the most part. As this is the first year where a boaters safety cert is required, our instructor mentioned to be prepared to be stopped and asked for...

Trailer sounds like chain is dragging but nott

Bearings / brakes. Had a bearing go on an Escort trailer. Didn't know it at the time but at low speeds, the trailer shook hard enough the trailer jack would rattle. Died down at higher speeds - go figure. This was way back in my younger/stupider days. Cost me an axle by the time I had the...

    Bayliner Floor Project

On the exhaust, I might check into putting it back through the outdrive. This based on what I was told during my safe boating class this past weekend where in NY if you are deemed too loud, you can be cited and pulled off the water. Instructor made a point this was going to be an enforcement...

    Brake woes

Damn. This is one where I hate being right. On a Sierra 1500, I went through 3 different shipments of Powerstop rotors (about 15 years ago) cause they kept sending the wrong rotors. I had 6 bolt lugs and the rotors were 5 bolt. Don't ever get these, the drilled/slotted rotors delam'd in under...
