    1989 Yamaha 9.9SF 2 cycle stored for 12 years

Great idea! I did as you suggested and once engine was rotating freely I gave it a compression test as suggested.

    1989 Yamaha 9.9SF 2 cycle stored for 12 years

I'm taking a 1989, 9.9SF 2cycle and putting it back into service. I'll be doing the following before installing it on a 14' Mirrocraft boat. 1. Remove and clean carburetor. 2. Rebuild water pump. 3. Change lower unit oil. 4. Check ignition and replace spark plugs. Is there anything else I should...

Electric Start But No Charging System?

You know, the more I'm working on this engine the more I'm thinking it's a bit of a Frankenstein, pieced together over the years. The engine is a 1961 FDL-15 18HP Johnson. Typically I would go to boatinfo and check the service manual, but they are down for the time being, so I'll ask...

    18 HP Wiring Diagram

Hi, Does anyone here have the wiring diagram for a 1961 FDL-15 electric start with electric choke? PO has it wired up so you use the momentary choke switch to activate the starter, and a combination key switch and toggle switch to shut it down. Quite the mess. The boat does have the correct...

    Water pump housing and porosity.

Went to get a water pump rebuild kit including the aluminum housing and was very surprised by the amount of porosity on the side wall of the new housing. This was no small amount, but included a section about 1/4 of the entire pump wall. I passed on the perchance at this time thinking that this...

    18 HP Fule Line

Hi all, I'm in the process of rebuilding the fuel system on a 61 Johnson FDL-15 including all new fuel lines. The lines I removed from the fuel filter assembly to the fuel pump, and from the fuel pump to the carburetor all appear to be 1/8" ID. Is this the correct size line for this engine? Thanks.

    Kid Shot My Johnson!

I'm in the process of getting my 1961 FDL-15 running again after a 5 year hiatus. I was getting ready to replace the water pump impeller when I discovered a small hole in the exhaust housing. I'm fairly confident that it's a pellet hole from my ex-neighbors son's high powered pellet gun. My...

    18 HP Carb

Hi all, I'm getting ready to remove and clean a carb on a 1961 18 HP FDL 15 Johnson that has set un-run for years. It is equipped with a electric choke. Are there any pitfalls or words of wisdom I should know before I tear into it that will ensure a positive result? I do have a Clymer manual on...

    Repainting 1961 Johnson

Hi all, I have a 1961 Johnson Seahorse FDL 18 hp (fresh water only) outboard that I would like to refurbish. I decided while its apart it would be a good time to repaint it as the the whole thing looks chalk white due to years of sunlight. My question is simply what colors should it be, where...

    Ok...makes sense to me....NOT!

Today I was checking on getting my wife a fishing license. Being disabled she asked me to see if they had a special license for people with a disability. In Wisconsin, if you have a disability you can get a "Disabled Fishing" license that runs $13 cheaper then a regular "Annual" license. Ok...I...

    Found the orignal ad.

Hi all, Messing around on the internet today and stumbled on the original ad for my MirroCraft 14' "Fisherman". Looks like boats were a bit pricey even back in the 1963... $320 was a lot of dough back then considering the average income was around $5800. But on the plus side gas was only 29...

    14 ft boat setup.

Hi all, I'm probably over thinking again...bad habit of mine...but I'm wondering about the way my boat is set up and if there isn't a better way. Last year I bought a 1963 14 ft. Mirrocraft aluminum "V" bottom boat with a 1961 Johnson FDL Seahorse 18 hp. engine hanging off the transom. Old rig...
