White residue on prop shaft, thrust washer, inside prop etc.

For what it's worth - I cleaned this off of the shaft / thrust washer using parts cleaner no problem. Makes me think it was dried grease. However, after knocking the hub out of the prop, there was a bunch of a white chalky looking residue in there too. After looking at that further, that looks...

White residue on prop shaft, thrust washer, inside prop etc.

It's kinda chaulky. On the inside of the prop hub, that same white residue is more gummy.

White residue on prop shaft, thrust washer, inside prop etc.

I took my prop off because I noticed vibration after a big wave at a heavy throttle the last time I was on the water. I noticed that there was a lot of white residue on areas of the prop shaft, etc. What is this? https://postimg.cc/56nMvhDH

Slowness to get on plane and new vibration after big waves

(For the context of this: I have a heavy ~5-6k lbs cabin, 24' cabin cruiser with a 5.0 MerCruiser Alpha 1 Gen II.) Yesterday I took my boat down the river ~3hrs. Everything was great. Upon returning , the wind was coming down the channel and created roller waves with little white caps. We...

Shift cable replacement Alpha I Gen II 5.0L - cable binding

For what it's worth, this is how we resolved it: Pulled the cable jacket back out of the transom while it was still threaded into the bellhousing. Fed the cable through the jacket while we had full control of the jacket to ensure it fed smoothly. Fished the jacket / cable combo back through the...

Shift cable replacement Alpha I Gen II 5.0L - cable binding

I wasn't there for that part, but I'd say no based on conversations. I'd imagine the cable jacket was routed around the transom / engine and then screwed into the bellhousing after being routed.

Shift cable replacement Alpha I Gen II 5.0L - cable binding

Brother bought a boat with the same hardware as mine, but it has been a while since I've replaced my shift cable so I'm fuzzy on the details and looking for guidance / tips. The cable housing has been attached to the drive unit and routed through the transom and into the boat. From what I...

    Replacing twin Bravo IIs

My father picked up a 33' Formula (not sure the exact model). Powered by twin 7.4L MPI Mercruiser engines. It had Bravo II drives on it, but we no longer have the drives. So - we need two new drives to slap on the back of this and ideally want to do it affordably so I'm looking at all the...

Bearing Buddy dust cap "bra" coming off 1 hub while trailering

Yes, I have disc brakes. I had Les Schwab tires repack my bearings in late 2022. Sorry for the delay, all. I didn't get notifications that anyone replied.

Bearing Buddy dust cap "bra" coming off 1 hub while trailering

I have Bearing Buddies on my trailer. 1 of them keeps blowing the dust cap (called a Bearing Buddy Bra) off. This is only happening on 1 of my 4 trailer hubs. This first happened last year and it blew grease all over my wheel. I didn't have a replacement cap so I just cleaned things up and...

Staying warm on boat in the winter

Thanks everyone for your input! Definitely helpful. So, very much related - I want to test run my accessories on my batteries while at idle to understand what the drain is on the batteries. What is the best way to do this? I'm taking a shot in the dark with this logic, let me know if it...

Staying warm on boat in the winter

Your 20-30's are my 50's. But I do like the breakdown! And, that's pretty awesome that you'd enjoy your boating down to 20-30 degrees. Good on you.

Staying warm on boat in the winter

You're right. 50 doesn't sound bad to most I'm sure. I have a disease (Reynaud's). When I get cold, I can't heat myself up any longer. If it's less than 70 degrees (and I have no sun) my body starts to get continually colder and it accelerates. I have to have outside heating sources (hand...

Staying warm on boat in the winter

I'm planning on being part of an upcoming lighted boat parade, however temps are likely going to be 50 degrees or so, quite cold in my opinion. We have full canvas (not sure of the proper term) where the cockpit area is fully enclosed, but what is the best way to stay warm? We have an...

    Properly handling estuary, gotcha's etc.

Sounds like you have had and are having a lot of fun in your life! Boats are expensive, but I don't have to tell you that. I'm only 14 years into my boat journey. I'm glad to hear you've had so many years of boating which I'm *sure* are filled with countless great experiences. Thanks for sharing.

What prompted you to sell and not rebuy? ...not saying I haven't had my own thoughts of this at times for my own reasons.

    Properly handling estuary, gotcha's etc.

These were on the way to Benicia (wind / wave combo not as bad)

    Properly handling estuary, gotcha's etc.

Saturday: Sacramento -> Benicia (74mi). The Sac river was perfect, but the Rio Vista area and the area between Rio Vista and Benicia had some chop and some wind, but honestly all in all, not bad at all, but I certainly wouldn't have tried it with a boat that didn't have some height to it. There...
