    Warning alarm not working

    2001 60 HP Merc 4 stroke. My warning alarm horn does not chirp when I turn the ignition key. I just hooked up 12 volts directly to it and it does indeed work just fine.     After reading many of the posts here, it occurred to me that I've never heard any kind of alarm on my motor since I've owned it. I'm the original owner. Should I not hear a beep when I turn the key? Where is the alarm located? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks..
