    Pre-mix ratio question

Thank you for your suggestions. I am going to take the oil injection out completely (alarm beeps four times and I don't think it's because it is overheating). I don't know how much oil is already in the gas tank - but I know there is already some. It is a guessing game - I am gonna measure...

    Pre-mix ratio question

If i take a sample of gas that has some oil mixed in - is there any way to tell the gas to oil ratio? I just purchased a sport jet 175 xr 2 that has the automatic oil injection. The original owner said he never trusted this setup so he added a "a quart or so" of oil into the gas tank "just in...

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

QBhoy - thank you for this explanation. I run the engine up to temperature then remove the spark plugs. Then run compression tests in each cylinder without the water running. Here is my question - won't the engine be much hotter on the first cylinder tested and much colder by the time I get...

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

I ran the compression test on a cold engine. I removed all 6 spark plugs and did a compression test on each cylinder without water running. Is this correct?

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

Thank you for your suggestion. I do not think I will be able to change (level) the piston. The pistons run parallel to the ground - the piston tops are vertical. If I understand what you are suggesting correctly, I would have to remove the motor and hang it sideways for a day - I don't...

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

I believe the instructions say to spray powertune through the carburetors. In this case, to soak the piston, should i spray powertune directly through the spark plug hole?

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

I just purchased a 1997 Sea Rayder with the Sport Jet 175 xr2 engine. These are the results of my compression test: Port side 120 125 120 Starboard side 115 120 105 Engine seems to run great - should I be worried about the one cylinder with the 105 reading? Is there anything I can do to...

    Electric Engine Conversion?

I overheated and seized my Sport Jet 175. Instead of replacing the motor which is now becoming very difficult to find, I am thinking of converting to complete electric. I have a 16 foot Sea Rayder Jet Boat - has anyone made such a conversion? Thanks!

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

Thank you! I have never heard of these products - I thought you were talking about a procedure to do on the engine...

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

I will read up on my settings my carbs. I was lied too! I was told those testers were worthless. No matter what, I am going to use an ir thermometer. If some of the cylinders are not firing, that would be an obvious reason the rpms are low.

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

My Sport Jet has always been cold blooded. Once it starts it has always puffed out a nice cloud of white smoke. Once it warms up - it will easily restart in neutral without throttling up. But the first start has almost always been difficult. I would love it if it just started when it was cold

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

I have not used these - which product/manufacturer do you recommend? Sorry, but I do not know what this is. I noticed there are so YouTube video on this - I will try to educate myself. I have 3 spark testers - I plug all three on one side of the engine and they all light up. They also light...

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

With the throttle in neutral, I pull the neutral lock button out, then throttle it all the way forward - this is the only way I can get it to start As a test, I removed the throttle cable - with that removed, it is much easier to manipulate - I have tried more throttle, less throttle, tried...

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

I tried to setup (adjust) in the water, but when I took it to the water, it would not start in the water (my sport jet only starts with the garden hose in the driveway). I can't adjust it if I can't start it 😞 Brand new pre-mixed 50:1 gas. Rebuilt the carbs last week (and replaced the reeds)...

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

I do not believe this is true (minimum of 1,000) This might be true - but this is boat that I have and this is what I am stuck with. I am hoping to get it running so I can take the kiddies out and have some fun.

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

It idles at 800 rpm in the driveway with a garden hose. I would like it to idle around 1500. I took it to water and could not get it to run at all - she would die after a few seconds. (In the water I would love if it idles around 1,000). Of the 3 main adjustment screws, I have "played...

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

I have rebuilt the carbs, replaced the reeds, verified that the electrical fuel primer and fuel pump work, verified that the push button enrichment valve clicks and works, replaced the spark plugs, verified spark to each cylinder. I have also adjusted the primary pickup screw and idle stop...

Sport Jet 175 x2 with low compression

I am having problems with my 1998 Sea Rayder with a Sport Jet 175 x2. It idles extremely low - around 800 rpms. I have tried a number of things, but just can not increase the idle. I did a compression test and all 6 cylinders are at 105 psi. Is this engine now worthless???

Sport Jet 175 - backfiring? at idle, sounds like popcorn

At 2,000 rpm and below my Sport Jet 175 xr2 makes very loud popping sounds. Above 2,000 rpm to WOT - the engine sounds and runs great, just having an issue at low speed/idle. Hope this video helps you help me: https://youtu.be/y2mOLIWaD6U
