    When you stop your engine most of the cooling water drains out, leaving air and salt water in the interior. It's much better corrosion-wise to run fresh water through your engine before shutdown. You may be able to just turn on the hose without running the engine to get the benefit. Not sure.

    Presumably you put it in the down position (gypsy latched) if you don't want the anchor to deploy, such as when you're under way. To operate the windlass to deploy the anchor you move the lever to the vertical position.

    Your gypsy isn't tight enough and there may be some debris that is preventing the gypsy from fully seating onto the output shaft. I would remove the gypsy and clean the interfacing surfaces with a degreaser and scotchbrite pad, then regrease, reassemble, and tighten.

    Dexter has you go 30 ft-lbs initially, then finger tight, then only loosen to align cotter pin. Been working for me a long time.

    The only way you can do it with a single drive is with thrusters. Volvo does it with just a bow thruster. I have a joy stick on my twin outdrives and love it.

    I get my OMC/Volvo joint venture part numbers here. Drill down to Evinrude, Sterndrive, etc. In the joint venture years the part numbers are the same between OMC and Volvo. The dipstick O-ring is a little larger than the drain plug and overflow plug O-rings. BPR Parts
