    Stripped threads on carburetor

This is like what I used a long time ago - not sure what sizes are available.

    Stripped threads on carburetor

Do you think a brass NPT hose barb would be out of the question? It does look like the wall is pretty thin. I never tapped zinc, though that fitting did cut new threads on the Rochester and I am pretty sure that was zinc.

    Stripped threads on carburetor

I did this to a Rochester nearly 50 years ago - they made a replacement fitting that cut new threads as you cranked it in. I do not remember what that fitting was called, but it did exist. Also - you could drill out and tap the carb for a larger fitting, then use a nipple and piece of fuel...

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Sounds good - I will give that a try. Thanks

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Wanted to post a quick update. The Port fuel flow sensor is defective - vane did not want to rotate reliably. So this explains funky/pulsating readings. I did a leak down test on the Starboard fuel rail. Applied power to pump, read 54 PSI on fuel rail. Shut down pump and waited till PSI...

    New Style U-joint Bellows DP-SM

I installed these new design bellows in 2018. Each year I inspect them thoroughly (as best I can with a bore scope). They have been on my list to replace ( I usually replace every 5 years). They are going into their 7th year and look like new. Boat is freshwater/brackish. My universal...

They were all tannish in color. Nothing obvious jumped out.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Thanks, that is a good video. I have done this before, but had access! Boat is a Monterey 282, engines are under deck not hatch. So have about 10" of clearance.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Thanks - the injectors will be fun, buried under the deck! Luckily I am small framed, just might fit.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Alldodge - I'd like to pick your brain a little more, but keep in mind I tend to overcomplicate things! I have seen a sheen on the water's surface around this engine/outdrive. Always assumed it was from the trim, but now realize it is not and it smells like gas. Seems raw fuel is working...

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

I do have MefiScan, so I can do that. I wonder if the fuel flow sensor on Port engine is defective?? It is new. I could swap the flow sensors and see if the behavior follows the sensor.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Just looking for some thoughts before I dig into this - I think I have the basics covered but wanted to double check. I have twin 4.3's and independent gas tank for each engine. Noticed my starboard engine seems to burn more fuel than the port. Also noticed starboard exhaust smells rich...

Questions about idle speed on 4.3GXI-E on startup

Also, in response to Alldodge - I am worried I might have had 2 problems. Did not have time to take her out and then let her sit for a few hours to check hot restart. I did attempt hot restart in the marina, but it only sat for a few minutes. So next week I will check this out.

Questions about idle speed on 4.3GXI-E on startup

Appreciate all the responses, problem is solved. It was the IAC. My diagnostic software had too steep of a learning curve for me - it is the OBD Diagnostics based on ScannerPro. But it showed me enough to realize both engines were attempting the same start sequence, and had the same running...

Questions about idle speed on 4.3GXI-E on startup

Sorry, I did leave out some things, and I like your thinking - which is what I was looking for. I am a retired EE who has worked on engines for 50 years so I get trapped in my own thinking!!! I wish I could find a flow chart on the ECM to see what it is trying to do. I will be recording...

Questions about idle speed on 4.3GXI-E on startup

Thanks for getting back to me. My next step is to see what the ECM has to say. I forgot to add that once started, it runs like a dream. WOT hits 4500rpm, which is exactly what it should hit. No idling issues. Just simply a finicky start, which is more difficult when warm. On a side...

Questions about idle speed on 4.3GXI-E on startup

Been trying to diagnose a hard start condition on 4.3GXI-E. Boat has twins, so easy to compare how they act on start. Port engine starts fine, and revs idle initially then settles back to 600rpm. Starboard engine DOES NOT raise idle at start, and tries to simply start running at 600rpm...

Volvo penta 4.3 gxi rough running

IAC?? My one engine would sometimes struggle to idle, then run fine for a day or two, then act up again. Fired up great Thursday, and ran fine. Anchored all day, then would not start. Was running back on the other and managed to start the troublesome one. Ran great. Shut down, then would...

    power steering actuator question

During my reinstall, I could not get the ram at the end of the steering cable to fit through the bushing/wiper (#11 in picture). I removed the snap ring and removed #11 to ponder what to do, then got interrupted by my neighbor. Later mounted the actuator promising myself never to do this...

    Quick question on steering actuator

Not much room, but got it out. Clevis pin attaching to the transom shield and tie rod was the biggest pain. And of course all my cotters were bent 300 billion degrees.. ..
