    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Your design drawings calculated several important factors, CG, forces etc based on a specific O/B package. Do your alternatives above fit within your design?

RCH. Universal unit of measure. .....at least in Iowa and Manitowoc.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I recall you previous big boat. IIRC the marina delivered and dropped it on supports in your drive. Trailer is nice. Do you have a drawbar vehicle to get it back into the water?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I made the twofootitus upgrade four years ago. Merc 180 hp 4.3LX to a VP G5 4.3 250 hp. I compared several brands of 18-20' BRs. In all cases where the boat offered both I/O or O/B, the O/B model at the same power was considerably more expensive. Also the O/B version offered less hp than the...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

A bit off the main topic, but I want some education about I/O vs O/B in saltwater. I'm freshwater and realize the maintenance simplicity of O/Bs vs I/Os. I see many/most O/B boats in saltwater. I assume the engine housings are aluminum, but still subject to corrosion, as are the drive hsgs. Are...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

That extra 44+" of planing hull has been in the back of my mind. I'm thinking a good outcome. Hopefully a lower planing speed and maybe being able to abandon the trim tabs.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I retired working in heavy equipment transmission/drive train manufacture. Coarse threads in both cast iron and steel were the norm. I mostly set up the tooling and processes, so I didn't much care why. I assumed with the joint fasteners we used and the required torque, coarse threads provided...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

With my one project with resin/filler/membrane I used a quart ziploc with a corner cut off to apply the goo. It was a hot summer day and my first try with a mix kicked shortly after I got it into the baggie. I never got it applied. The bag was so hot I pitched it out of the boat onto the garage...

Got it, now that I see the access. ....erm, how big did you say you are. ;)

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Probably covered somewhere in the previous 514 threads, but how will you get this fully enclosed pod secured to the original transom?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Another question: Will you fully enclose this to extend the hull to the end? ...also the new mini 'transom'?

I have no doubts that your weight calcs are spot on. ....previous experience with you on this still stings a bit. ;)

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I just tuned in to this post. ....Nice project. I haven't gone through all of the threads, so you probably explained this earlier: This is going to move a lot of weight a long distance aft. What do you expect as far as floating waterline, planing, etc.

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

My boating pal with a '95 350 mag removes the fuel filter and runs the carb dry. He seems happy. ...until that time he forgot to replace the filter and drained his battery trying to restart in the spring at the ramp. ;) I ran Stabil through my '96 4.3 lx 4 bbl for 25 yrs and had no carb...

How can I make my Tracker 40 HP faster?

I'm pessimistic about getting more power, torque, rpm from a healthy, properly tuned engine, and correctly propped boat without mods, which are fun for a while until the engine dies an early death. If you have deep enough pockets and are good at research, many O/B and I/O engines are the same...

    Stalling, sudden low idle.

I wondered if your pressure regulator may be restricting flow. 3-7 psi electric fuel pumps are common and relatively inexpensive. The challenge is finding one with pipe fittings so you can adapt it to the SS fuel plumbing in your boat. Below is a Carter pump that I installed on my 4.3LX. With...

    Tongue Jack Failing

You may have missed Duton-Lainson in your search for a replacement. I've owned two trailers over 30 yrs with D-L jacks with no trouble. https://www.dutton-lainson.com/products.php?cat=35

    Stalling, sudden low idle.

That is the idle speed screw. But if it revs in neutral but doesn't idle or deliver power, I suspect a dirty carb or fuel supply problem. Verify a clean fuel filter and that your electric fuel pump is good. Checking the fuel pump can be tricky. It doesn't start until the engine is running and...

Thoughts on trim pump and cover for volvo.

Edit: It looks like the pump assembly has a sealed fluid reservoir. So looking for leaks could be easier if the assembly can be removed with just the cover attaching screws. The electric control cable has a reusable seal grommet that may allow you to pull the unit out far enough to check for leaks.
