Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

I got the Ventilation/Exhaust Ring 360626, and after making some modifications, I fitted it snugly on the gearcase. The gap left it's about 1/16 (way better than my AL prop) Tested it in the lake. I love the prop, great hole shot, speed (40 mph - could have been better if the lake wasn't...

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

Got the controls, and it all indicates the only change needed is the trim wires connector. Unlike the old box, the newer one has a 4-pin male square connector near the throttle box, which is useful, as one can remove the box without pulling the cables from the engine compartment.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

It appears the part number 350626 might work; it's a weed ring (exhaust ring) for Renegade Bass props on Evinrude V6 (which seems to share the same diameter as the Alpha One gearcase). Only 15 bucks, so I ordered one to see if it fits.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

That's some McGiver Sh@t haha. I'll keep searching for a gearcase-mounted ring (aka weed ring), if I can't find any....I'll give this idea a shot. I don't want to keep the prop if it affects min-acceptable performance.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

To clarify, my aluminum prop is 4-3/8 inches at the base (milled barrel), otherwise it is approximately 4-9/16 inches.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

More details here. The SS prop is exactly 4" at the barrel base. The aluminum I've been running is 4-3/8. I haven't found a ring (gearcase-mounted) compatible with Alpha One. Starting to guess they don't exist. This one is for Mercury Outboards Part Number: 8M0214998, but it won't work for...

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

Thank you, this def a great suggestion. They seem available for alpha one too. And I'm only dissing the unsolicited legal counselling.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

Yes. Nut wasn't installed when I took the pic. When fully installed, it looks just like the other prop.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

Lol...did I ask anyone here to take responsibility?

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

I took it apart a couple of years ago and greased everything up. But some mechanisms are already worn.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

Motor in my signature. 3.0. Alpha one gen one gearcase 4 3/4 I thought of that but the prop barrel goes all the way in. If one looks through the prop exhaust cavities, I cannot see even light. So I doubt gases will take that path. I guess I'll have to give it a try in the water or unning the...

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

Perfect. Then I'll pull the trigger. My old control's buttons are getting stubborn.

Prop is making thumping / clicking noises when hand rotated (video)

My lower unit used to do that, but after adjusting the shift cable at the engine, it went away.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

Hey there, My 4-blade Aluminum prop got a hit and bent the tip of one of the blades (nothing serious). I got this SS prop from a friend with similar specs, but the barrel is slightly smaller than the Aluminum propeller at the base; 3/8~1/2 inch less in total diameter. Everything fits...

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

I didn't. I haven't seen the control in person. Is the black circle with the Merc logo a button? I've seen a few videos where it's referred to as the cover to the nut that holds the handle in place.

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

I think it won't work. Newer controls do not have a throttle-only button. I can't cold-start my carburated engine without it.

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

My boat is Alpha one gen 1, the donor is Alpha one gen 2.

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

Hi, has anyone switched the conventional (old model) throttle control with the slighly the newer version? Will it all work the same? Wire connectors and Cable terminals. From this model (early 90s): To this (2000s): The newer model is intalled in a to-be part-out 2005 Baylines BR 190 (5.0...

    Fuel Tank incorrectly labelled?

Now that I can accurately measure the fuel consumption, I'm impressed with the fuel economy of this 3.0 engine. Went out two days in a row, boating for at least 3 hours every day (a mix of cruising and idle speed)...it used only 1/4 of the tank. wow. It's much more efficient than I ever thought.

    Fuel Tank incorrectly labelled?

Yes. I replaced it today with the vertical style (wema), and what a beauty. Like you said, no more guessing, no more worrying. In the end, I didn't empty the tank. At this point, I'm confident the tank's label is fine. Yesterday, I filled up the tank and used approx 20 liters (based on...
