    Exchanging newer outdrive with older?

    1980 OMC 400 has been run with water and little oil in the outdrive. some bearings have seized in the outdrive upper section. Have access to an older outdrive from a 1969 unit. Will the ‘69 outdrive fit the ‘80 midsection? Question two, how common is the OMC 4 cylinder with twin carbs?

    Mercury 9.8 bottom end

    Took the bottom end off a Mercury 9.8 wasn't pumping water. Pump burnt up, case melted. Put in a new pump kit. Now trying to fit it all back together, fits together, all except the last 1.5 inches. Is there a trick to getting the shaft and coupler to slide together? Or just keep at it? Moe

    1980 OMC 400 lower end

    Having recently purchased well used StarCraft SS 18, on inspection of the out drive lower end. I noticed a chunk of the skeg broken off. Size is about 2”x2” triangle piece off the tip. Will this amount have any effect on handling off the unit? Thanks Moe
