    i cant get my out drive yoke &shaft back in

    i have a 84 alpha 1 out drive, i just put on a new oil seal but i cant get the drive shaft back in far enough to screw the retainer nut back on to the out drive. the gears appear to be meshing together, is there some trick to this?

    i have a 1984 4 clylinder inboard merccruiser with a mercruser (out drive/stern) the boat is a 84 cuddy cabin cobia odessey183, the stern water pump was replaced and the guy told me he presure tested the seals to make sure they wernt leaking. before he started the water pump job i had milky oil...
