1999 Honda BF115 bell housing full of oil

The boat is new to me within the last month. I will primarily be using it in fresh water with occasional salt water use. It was owned by a family friend and it was used mainly in salt water. Thanks for the response ahicks!

1999 Honda BF115 bell housing full of oil

Hi all, Looks like I’m going to be pulling my power head to replace some seals (see attached picture). Seen some oil around my starter so I decided to pull and inspect. The bell housing is full to the brim with oil. I have a good manual, doesn’t look like too bad of a job. Just wanted to start...

1999 Honda BF115 intermittent long alarm no MIL

Hi all, Have a 1999 Honda BF115 BZBD-1000320 with an intermittent long alarm. No MIL light or alternator light on. Shorted the harness to see if any codes come up but get nothing. Swapped the pins on the battery and MIL lights to verify it works and it does. Motor starts and runs great...

Honda BF115 power tilt relay wiring

Yes sir you are right, in this economy you can’t afford to just blow cash on something that is overpriced. Hp Fuel pump for this motor is 900$, 1998-2003 Honda Accord fuel pump is almost identical for 120$. Works great and for that price can’t beat it.

Honda BF115 power tilt relay wiring

For anyone who might have the same issue and is not the most electronically inclined like myself I have attached a drawing of the oem relays. Each relay post in the picture has the corresponding automotive relay post number. Just move the wires from the original position to the corresponding...

Honda BF115 power tilt relay wiring

Hey Sam I am, got it all geared up now, for what it consisted of it was a lot simpler than I though once I got all the wire straightened out and got a good look at it. Still don’t understand the wiring diagram though lol. Turns out the oem diodes were external to begin with and had heat shrink...

Honda BF115 power tilt relay wiring

Honda BF115 power tilt relay wiring

Picked up two 40A 5 lug relays yesterday. Will update over the weekend on how I make out. Don’t want to spend the 450 on a work I progress motor. If I get it back up and running I might spend the cash if I feel the automotive relays are not reliable enough. Just tired of manually tilting the...

1999 Honda BF115 power tilt relay

Thanks for your prompt response ahicks. I do like the thought of simply just plugging in an oem relay, but I am slightly impatient to wait on shipping. I also like the thought of being able to replace with generic relays in the future simply because of how easy they are to get and you can buy...

Honda BF115 power tilt relay wiring

Hi all, My power tilt relay has corroded to near dust (see picture). The price of a new one has me at least wondering if it is possible to wire two typical relays rather than spending the $450 the dealer wants. I have attached a picture of the wiring diagram from the manual as well. As you...

    Honda BF115 seized from sitting

Just wanted to update for anyone who might have similar issues in the future. It was my starter. Thing was seized with the starter gear stuck on the flywheel ring gear with a seized starter ( boat must have partially sunk in the past ).

    Honda BF115 seized from sitting

Put a little oil down the cylinders and waited a bit. Put my small ratchet on the crank bolt (didn’t want to come right onto it) it turned! Went back and forth a couple times, thing turns free and smooth. I will likely pull the head for further inspection but glad to have it freed up anyways.

    Honda BF115 seized from sitting

I got the lower unit off, lower unit spins free. Tried turning the crank by hand with the plugs out but no luck. Any ideas on what you uses to free it up? I stuck my inspection camera down the plug wells. Looks clean from what I can see. Will only be able to tell the damage where the rings were...

    Honda BF115 seized from sitting

I figured I’d mention that the shift lever moves freely, when In fwd or rev the prop wont turn by hand. Neutral the prop spins free as it should.

    Honda BF115 seized from sitting

Hey all, I just picked up a Bayliner with a 115ho Honda. Motor ran when it was parked a couple years ago. It seized up while sitting. I’ve freed up old Chevy I/O motors using some trans fluid in the cylinders. I was hoping to do the same thing with this motor. My current plan is to soak it for...
