    Having Hot Start issues

Do you have a part number for the Bosch replacement injectors? I've occasionally had hot start problems on my 5.7 GXi-HF and when it finally starts there's a smell of fuel from the exhaust. I suspected leaky injectors, so I cleaned them and have not had major issues since.

Time For A New Fuel Pump?

You can try disconnecting the wires connected to each pump in order with the engine running. That will reveal which pump is bad. The HP pump is easily replacable, replacing the LP pump requires disassembling the fuel cell.

    Port motor out!

Here's what I would do (disclaimer; I'm not an expert): Can you hear the fuel pump priming when turning the key on (no start)? If yes, try pulling gas from a can (or the starboard engine fuel hose). If no, check the fuel pump relays. If the relays are good, try installing the pump from the...

Seeking advice regarding Volvo Penta 5.7GXi-HF fuel pump whine

Tried this today and it’s the low-pressure pump which is whining. I now carry an aftermarket spare ready to switch in 15 minutes.

    5.7 GXI-HF making "whistling" noise

Thank you! Will have a look at these.

    5.7 GXI-HF making "whistling" noise

So my replacement pump was a dud (bought second hand, a gamble on my part). Before I buy a new third-party fuel cell assembly; has anyone experienced this kind of whistling noise at certain rpms? I know the classic whine coming from these pumps, this is something else. Any other potential sources?

    5.7 GXI-HF making "whistling" noise

Thanks for the input. I wasn't aware there was an IAC muffler on the 5.7GXI ('06 or '07). Seems like something which should be a maintenance item. I'll pull the flame arrestor and have a look. I have an aftermarket fuel cell lying around, I'll install that and see if the problem goes away.

    5.7 GXI-HF making "whistling" noise

So my engine (or drive?) has developed this high-pitched whistle-like noise. I've done some online research and a lot of posts and videos suggest the fuel pump might be the culprit. My pump has been whining for years, but the pitch is more or less constant, eventually drowned out by engine noise...

    VP 5.7GXi-HF fuel pressure

I have implememted this bulletin. As I understand it, this was VP’s workaround to the problems caused by painted fuel cells.

    VP 5.7GXi-HF fuel pressure

Having recently cleaned the fuel injectors (and changed the o-rings), I was testing today to inspect for leaks. I hooked up a gauge to the high-pressure side on the fuel rail and turned the key to the on position without starting the engine. The pressure jumped instantly to the expected 50psi...

    Bellows adhesive or not?

From my VP Workshop Manual AC 2(2) from 2003, on page 43: "Coat the outside surface of the gimbal bearing bore with Volvo Penta Gasket Sealing Compound. Sealer is not required on the outside of the exhaust opening." and page 61: "Apply Volvo Penta Gasket Sealing Compound around the complete...

Just rebuilt the trim cylinders, now the outdrive won't stay up under load

My guess: Could be the piston seals in the cylinders or the return valve in the pump, probably the former since everything worked prior to the rebuild. That is assuming you have no leaks externally. There's a guy called Michael Romer on youtube who has some videos on how to test for leaky...

Seeking advice regarding Volvo Penta 5.7GXi-HF fuel pump whine

I've already removed all the paint from the fuel cell interior.

Seeking advice regarding Volvo Penta 5.7GXi-HF fuel pump whine

Revisiting an old thread as another season draws to a close. The fuel pump is still whining and still working. I had the idea of unplugging the electrical connectors for the pumps with the engine running in an attempt to determine if it's the low-pressure or high-pressure (or both) which is...

    Engine over heats

Does your power steering cooler have an extra hose barb blocked off by a rubber cap held on by a hose clamp? Could be a potential for a leak.

Flushing raw water side of 5.7GXi-HF

Correct. Do you see any problems with the setup I described in my original posting?

Flushing raw water side of 5.7GXi-HF

That is a good suggestion and a good way to descale the heat exchanger and the bottom half of the raw water cooling circuit. However, I wanted to get some circulation on this in order to also clean the passages of the exhaust manifold and risers as well as the fuel cell.

Flushing raw water side of 5.7GXi-HF

Raw water cooled with heat exchanger so the block is fresh water cooled.
