Got it, except my dist shaft is turning clockwise when I crank motor ? starter was also replaced at that time last year. Is it possible that the starter is incorrect ? Do they all turn the same way ?

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Thanks, just thought the people here would have the info. Trusting parts guys is usually a mistake. As I’m finding out boats and cars are much different. Will start at the auto parts place I guess then.

Ok sounds good, I’ll stick with same old plugs. I’m sure that’s my problem, boat guys here, car guys are my only source. Car guys say gaps used to be in the 30s because coils were not nearly as hot as old days. Thus gaps have gotten bigger with fuel injection and hei ignition Over the years. Old...

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

I’m guessing you’re not familiar with coils and this modification Due to lack of old parts not being made any longer. The coil apparently over heats if gap is not enlarged. It’s a common thing to change plugs depending on the coil I’m reading. Hotter coils 40,000 volts need bigger gaps. Seems...

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Sorry, had a little family matter arise haven’t been able to get back to the boat for a little while anyways, fuel pump pressure is about 6 to 7 pounds. Seems to start OK at this point but doesn’t really run that great. Moving onto a whole different thing now I installed a per Tronics 1589 pick...

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

bolt patter won’t line up, couldnt reclock the two halves. I did try but They can’t be reclocked in any direction. couldn’t find a diaphragm kit either for the old pump I have. But this is all redundant now as I have the only pump that is correct application Without modifying lines.

Yes, I purchased that pump on eBay. Won’t fit without making new fuel lines, cant just turn the in and outlet around either. Rubber hoses on a boat kinda bother me when original was a metal line. is this common practice to just fabricate something to fit on a boat .

Definitely fun for me. Learning new stuff. Wish I had fuel injection. So much easier to deal with for me. carbs and boats are new to me.

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Tried the carter ones from eBay but none of them are a direct fit for my boat. Marine application ones are around 100 or more depending on brand From what I can find. My particular one was a perfect fit and it was 213.00 to get a cheaper automotive application then yes 50 bucks. I would have...

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Nope hose has been disconnected to make sure, it’s definitely not being shut off by float needle and seat I’m guessing. I’ll try new needle and seat next. Pump has just been replaced, took me forever to get the right one. All the ones on Amazon are not direct fit.

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Definitely not coming from the hose from pump to carb top. This is disconnected and fuel is just poring into carb. I replaced fuel pump but that didn't fix issue. Guess I’ll just replace needle and seat to see if that might do something. Like I said I blow thru inlet and then move float until it...

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Well, I did take it off and blow through the inlet and it seemed like the float completely closed off when it was level I could adjust it slightly lower, but it does completely shut off when I’m blowing through it. It’s just not shutting off the fuel pressure. Apparently the pump is like I say...

Fuel dumping in 5.0 cobra 1994 mechanical pump, not electric.

Sounds good, so the needle and seat are not stopping the flow. period. Or the pump has failed internally and is pumping too much mechanical pressure. I have some things to ck out. Thanks for info. I’m going to replace the 6 year old pump first then go from there. I will get a fuel pressure...
