    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

the angles are beneath the front 2 and back two currently, but its a 10 minute job to trim another piece and rivet into the subfloor frame for the middle two. The big goal of this whole build was to make it a way that can be modified without starting over.

good to know, i figured it needed a bolted connection to hold the pedestal base secure with the forces exerted on it while riding. It's got 6 mounting holes so the forces should be spread out quite well. Last thing i want is for the seat to rip out from the floor. I've got 1/8" aluminum angle...

Makes sense, what exactly is attaching through the sheet and floor to the pedestal? Is there an effective way to bolt it down without T-nuts?

Needing some advice here. My floor will be made from 1/2” plywood that’s going to be sealed and wrapped in marine vinyl. Under the floor I made a subfloor structure to beef it up enough to allow for 1/2” ply and provide tons of support. I’m getting to the point where I’m looking to drilling the...

Got some more interior work done yesterday which included adjusting the fit-up of the port console glovebox and getting the panels rough cut to their approximate size. For the first time in this restoration it looked like a boat again so yesterday was a good day. I'll have a ton of wood to seal...

    Need help finding tachometer

I am rebuilding my boat currently and getting ready to drill holes in my dash for gauges, steering, switches, ect. and am looking for help in regards to which tachometer i need. My motor is a 1993 75HP mercury and ive included a photo of the wiring plug from my controls that would supply the...

Got some side panels made up today. Needed something to cover up the sides of the hull and also give me a spot to mount my motor controls. Used aluminum sheets and a brake form them. I had to cut the top and bottom tabs off and weld them back on since my brake won’t make the bends with the two...

Working on cleaning my garage out a bit with the stretch of nice weather we’ve got here. I found my muffs so I thought I’d fire up my outboard to let it run as it’s a 93’ two stroke. If anyone knows how to upload a video please share as I’d like to post the video of it. The motor fired up first...

Dashboards cut, looking for some insight/advice if anyone has any answers here. At first I planned to install screws from behind the wood and using specifically sized ones to not come all the way through, essentially hiding the fasteners. I used 1/2” marine ply for the wood, I didn’t know if...

Excuse my welds, I had reached out on this aluminum tig group asking some questions and already told they were dogsh*t lol. I’m leaving the welds around the edges to keep the material there for strength. I started plug welding all the solid rivets and then made the surface flush to remove the...

    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

Just finished the major part of my consoles. Drove solid rivets into the sheets and angle aluminum frame, and welded all of the seams together. Only have a few more little things to do with making them all appear smooth and then all that’s left is to mark out the console dashboards.

Sure doesn’t, gives you a headache when trying to minimize warping during welding but I’ll take those struggles any day over the itch of fibreglass.

Both consoles almost fully fab’d up. Only thing left to do is to cut and fit some aluminum angle along the bottom edge of the dash.

The top of my console is 11-1/2” front to back and 28” wide. It should have plenty of room for a sonar screen and anything else I may need to mount. The curved top of my console is mostly for aesthetics. I think I’ll probably make a flat top and a curved design or two out of some scrap plywood...

    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

Cardboard template for the console dash. From my understanding and when seeing other boats the steering wheel is typically more towards the centre of the boat, I assume for ease of bending the cable to the gunnel. I’m going to mount the gauges and switches on the right side of the steering...

    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

Outside view of the starboard console progress. Like I had said before I’m going to use a nice piece of wood as the console dashboards on each console. With the starboard one having all my gauges and switches and the steering and the port one having a glovebox for some extra storage. I’m hoping...

Sheet aluminum cut and bent to fit the front, top, and back of consoles. I’m going to put some stained and sealed wood at the console face plate itself.
