Thanks for the information, the Gray wire showed continuity it didn't work right so I replaced the gray wire and the tach started working, appears to be fairly accurate but I need to calibrate it. Is the only calibration thru the tach pole settings?
I have the same issue I installed a tach replacing the original (inop) there is a white wire not a gray. I installed the tach set the poles to 6 and it seems to read correctly however the tach drops out at 3,000 RPM what might cause that? I have a 1986 Evinrude 150hp
