    Ayuh,..... It won't hurt anything, but honestly, it don't help either,...... The oil pump is in the bottom of the base, as soon as you turn the key, oil is pumping into the crank bearings, cam bearings, 'n filling the oil galleys,.... The filter is at the far end of the system,.....

    Ayuh,..... Or just isolate the block from the rest if the system with plugs or whatever, plumb an air fitting into a block drain, 'n add 'bout 15 psi of air, 'n listen,.... If it's cracked, you'll hear it, then follow the sound, to the problem,......

    Ayuh,...... How strong is yer water flow,..?? You are running the hose, full blast, Right,..?? Is yer hose system up to it,..?? At idle, the muffs should still be leaking, profusely,....

    Ayuh,,....... Merc uses a hard black/ greyish paper sorta gasket,..... The ones I've got are Sierra, from Napa, 10, or 20 in a little bag,... I keep a dozen or so, hanging on my oil pump tank, I use for fillin' the drives,.... Always handy when ya need one,....
