I OWN A 2006 FOURWINNS 328 VISTA. HULL #GFNCV016B606. ENGINE 5.7 OSI -E. OUTDRIVE XDP-D. I HAVE COMPLETED THE MARINE PROPULSION TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN 2003. I HAVE 45 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH ICE AND A STRONG BACKGROUND IN MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.
I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY 2006 VOLVO EQUIPMENT FROM THE DAY OF PURCHASE; SO YES I HAVE A FIX FOR THIS INJECTION PUMP ASSEMBLY. VOLVO PART #359444. SO MANY BOATERS, THAT WERE UNFORTUNATE TO BUY THIS POORLY ENGINEERED "RUBE GOLDBERG" DISASTER, HAVE SPENT MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS UNNECESSARILY.
I HAVE PUT TOGETHER A PICTORIAL AND WILL GIVE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION VERY SOON.
THERE IS A SOLUTION AND I BELIEVE VOLVO PENTA OWES ALL OWNERS A RECALL, FOR ALL OF OUR EXPENSE, OR AT THE VERY LEAST A HUGE APOLOGY.
THE KEY TO ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS, I BELIEVE, IS THE MATERIALS THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP ARE MADE OF. ALUMINUM! WHEN I BEGAN DISSECTING THE PUMP, I NOTICED A LOT OF GALVANIC ACTIVITY (corrosion) WHERE THE FUEL CELL FIT INTO THE UPPER AND LOWER PIECES OF THE PUMP. WHEN I FINALLY MANAGED TO FINISH THE TOTAL DISASSEMBLY, THERE WAS EXTREME PITTING AND CORROSION WHERE THE PIECES WERE FIT TOGETHER.

AS SOME OF YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW, THERE IS A SLEEVE THAT SURROUNDS THE FUEL CELL, WHERE THE COOLING WATER (salt water for me) CIRCULATES

VOLVO PENTA /CARTER, COATED ALL OF THE COOLING PASSAGES AND THE INTERIOR OF THE FUEL CELL WITH SOME TYPE OF PAINT OR COATING, TO PREVENT CORROSION. (Make-up of the coating unknown) MY NEXT FINDING INFURIATED AND AMAZED ME! I REMOVED A TEASPOON FULL OF ERODED coating AND CORROSION PRODUCTS FROM THE PUMP SCREENS AND INTERIOR OF THE PUMP.


IT APPEARS THE THIS COATING IS NOT IMPERVIOUS TO GASOLINE. THE COATING THAT REMAINED ON THE INTERIOR OF THE FUEL CELL COULD EASILY BE REMOVED WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT.
THE SQUEALÃÂÃÂ FROM THE PUMPS WAS CAUSED BY CAVITATION (fluid starvation). THE SCREEN ON THE INTAKE SIDE OF THE PUMP, WAS TOTALLY CLOGGED BY THE COATING FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE FUEL CELL!!
TO MAKE THIS ISSUE MORE FRUSTRATING, BY REPLACING THE PUMPS (appx. $225.00) OR CLEANING THE SCREEN, WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. AS MORE OF THE COATING CAME OFF OF THE INTERIOR OF THE FUEL CELL, THE PUMP SCREEN CLOGGED UP AGAIN, AND MANY PEOPLE GAVE UP AND PURCHASED AN ENTIRE FUEL PUMP IN ITS ENTIRETY. (Appx. $800.00)
