I have a 1986 Johnson 30 hp outboard. It goes into high speed fine on earmuffs but on the lake it stalls out about ten times before it goes into high speed and runs fine. Idle and low speed are fine and the carburetor has been cleaned three times. Thanks for any help or thoughts.

They all run fine and at high speed on a hose !!!---It means nothing and can in fact damage your motor.-----I say the carburetor slow speed is set too lean .---Or throttle plate is opening too soon.

Have you checked the high speed jet in the carb bowl to make sure it's clean ??

I would say you have to tell us more.------Was the orifice plug for high speed mixture cleaned ?------Compression test done ? --Throttle and timing advance synchronized.-----Any other trouble shooting done ?

(Carb cleaning means complete disassembly, soaking in solvent, opening every orifice, removal of domed compression fitting on top before cleaning.)
