Hey so Im pretty new to boating
I got a ‘95 Volvo penta 5.0 Engine. Noticed that my water pump leaks a lil bit with a couple drops consistently while engine is running, I’m guessing this isn’t Normal, what can this lead to ? Will be ordering a rebuild kit.

also my bilge pump and float switch decided to kick the bucket. Can I just order any with a higher gph rating and replace both ?

That couple of drops can cost you a motor.
Right now it's a few drops, then the rear seal goes out all the way and it stops
pumping water and you don't notice :(

The info says it's a 95 5.0
There's more letters after the 5.0 something like 5.0FIPMDA
This tells us a TON of info.
Like what systems you have to cool.
There's a bunch of different pumps used by Volvo
The letters tell us what kind you have.

Where's it leaking?

Also is it possible to upgrade/inter grate a newer style pump ?

which pump are you talking about? you reference both the raw water pump and bilge pump in post #1

yes, fix your raw water pump by installing seals and bearings

yes, its always a good idea to go higher capacity on your bilge pump

Hey it’s a 5.0 FAPHUE which is basically a OMC
I’ll have to double check where it was leaking exactly.
woukdnit be possible to upgrade to a new water pump !

and I was talking about both my water pump leaks a few drops and my bilge pump and float switched crapped out.

Rebuild the fresh water intake pump like Scott said and you can put any bilge pump in you want but most of the time bigger is better if it fits and it's installed correctly

A new pump is about $150 if you look around

For the bilge pump, I like the Attwood Sahara line of pumps with integral float switch that you can test. Put one in my boat when the original pump float switch died.

I have that style pump. I have just replaced it a few times in the last 18 years I have owned my boat.
