Hello all. I had a new 2000 25hp ML Mercury powerhead give out. #2 cylinder was scored. My mechanic said there was no evidence of overheating or lack of lubercation. He called Merc and within 5 minutes they sent a new powerhead for free. Kudos for them backing their product. Bad news is I have to pay for the labor. The mechanic at the dealer charged me $540 for the labor. Merc seemed to indicate that I should talk to the dealer since that seemed like a high price. What is a reasonable price for this service? How many hours and and $$per hour should be reasonable. When I take my car into the shop, the guy looks in the book and tells me exactly how many hours and their rate. What about outboard shops??? Thanks in advance for the replies. Take care.
