Short and sweet. Occasionaly if I am cruising slowly at 2,000 or so rpms and quickly put throttle in neutral. Engine will cut out? Happens more when backing off trailer and putting back into neutral. If I do it smoothly - does not seem to happen..( which I do try to be smooth with the throttle) I haven't changed spark plugs in a while. Could that be the problem.. Not a real big problem now, but I would like to head off any future real problems..
Thanks

Why don't you just go ahead and do a tune up on the motor, at least get that out of the way. Also check you RPM's at idle - might be low ( in gear ).
There could be a lot of reasons for this to happen but start with getting the motor fresh. Never know.

Hi,

I have a Yamaha F115 also, 2003.
Only time my F115 has stopped was after a service Yamaha dealer made and they did not screw on the built in fuel filter correctly on the threads so it did not seal properly. I found out by taking the cowl off and then I could see some gas dripping at the fuel filter. I unscrewed and and screwed it on properly on the threads so the rubber seal could seal as it was intended.
Other that that my F115 had never stopped and I have used it since I bought it new 2003. Great outboard by the way. Here is a picture of my F115 where I'm cruising in about 30 knots a hot summer day:

Does your motor struggle to idle smoothly when you drop down to idle speed but eventually smooths out?
First, do as the others have already said; Get a tune up; Change spark plugs.
If the symptom still persists, try cleaning your IAC (idle air control valve) with some carb. cleaner, toothbrush and compressed air.
I have the 2001 Mercury version (Yamaha powerhead) and over seven years of ownership, have cleaned it 3 times which cures the idle issue.
I have always had trouble backing off the trailer and not stalling the motor... I'm thinking it's because it isn't warmed up enough.

Just an idea.
Hope it might help you.
