I have some serious questions. I worked as a diesel tech for a few years so I have a very generous understanding of engines and electrical systems, but am having some serious problems with my boat motor.
I have a 2003 Johnson 150 (J150PXSTM) 2 stroke. It has had a rough idle and and I am loosing all of my top end. I usually run 42mph with a fairly quick plain out. At the moment I am only getting 30mph and it takes me awhile to get up and to that speed. While riding at this speed the motor will just randomly take off like it should then fall on its face back to 30mph. And will go in and out of this while riding at full throttle. I am tired of dumping money in to parts and chasing a ghost. I am going to lit what I have done to it to start with.
>Cleaned all carbs
>Rebuilt vapor pump
>checked diaphragms and o-rings in VRO pump (rebuild kit otw)
>Replaced fuel in tank
>Replaced warped fuel float bowls that were visibly leaking
>Checked pulse limiter(has blue one)
>Replaced fuel filter
>Replaced fuel water separator
>Changed spark plugs
>Checked for spark
One of the myseries that i cannot solvents that if I pump the primer too much it will flood the motor. The ball will never get completely tight, it will get very firm though. I have checked and cleaned all the floats and bowls.. all the needles look to be in good shape.
I know a common problem on these motors is the plastic float bowls warping and leaking there were two visibly leaking fuel and i replaced those 2 but did not have the funds to do all of them at the time. Are there still othere bowls warped enough to suck air?
Any and all helpful comments and ideas would be extremely helpful.
