A friend of mine is looking at a boat w/ a '03 225 Suzuki. Any known problems w/ this motor? To check the compression can I pull all the plugs and check?..Any special procedure? Thanks for any insight you can provide. I am told its a 2 stroke.

I would want to know how the motor has/hasn't been maintained, fresh or saltwater, then spend a couple of hours on the lake/river running the motor at all speeds, from cold start, idle, trolling speed, mid-range cruise, wide open throttle. You can tell a lot from the sea trial. Then if a compression test will make you feel better, then have it done. Good Luck!

That's it? No other opinions???

Is this motor reliable? Prone to any known problems??

I'm an I/O guy......not really familiar w/ OB's.

If you're new to Outboard motors then there will definitely be a learning curve, just like if you went from outboards to inboards. The serviceability and performance of these motors is directly related to their care and maintenance. That said, I've never heard of any inherent flaws, problems or weaknesses in the Suzuki 225, but I'm confident there's somebody who's had a bad experience with the motor, just like any motor. Not many "Yugo" outboards on the market. Again, a couple of hours on the lake or river with that motor can tell you a lot! Good Luck!

Take to Suzuki dealer and have them do a good check out on it. Just like you would on any boat and motor
