Hello all, I'm considering buying a trophy with a 04 150hp optimax. I asked to guy to start the motor w/water muffs. He ran it for about 1 minute and I didn't notice any blue smoke. I'm a newbie when it comes to outboards so my question is this normal? I expected to see some smoke being a two stroke. Or is this engine that efficent that it smokes very, very little? BTW, he started it at somewhat higher rpm then tapered it down after 10 seconds and never really reved it. Thank's

Yep, at idle about 400:1

That's good too... You should never rev engines without load, and especially on the flushers...

The DFI engines (optimax and e-tech) run clean, usually as clean or even cleaner than the average 4 cycle.

It shouldn't smoke, and the fellow that showed it to you knows what he's doing.

That engine stores fault codes. Spring for a scan at the local Mercury shop and they'll find any fault codes that have been set.

hope it helps
