I am looking at buying a motor. e135fplsrm 2004 evinrude 135hp.. I checked the compression and it was even but all were around 75lbs.. I know alot of the older motors always had low even compression but I am not sure an 04 with low hours should.. Second thing is there are small metal shavings scattered aound the powerhead. Mostly around the starter area. I did not see any holes in the block. I pulled the bottom cowling pan to get a good look but did not see anything.. Anyone see the same on similar motors?
Thanks in advance..

75lb is not a lot of compression. Compression testers vary though so why don't you either check something else with that tester and see if it reads low as well or try another tester. What condition was the starter bendix in ?? could be shavings from that. If so it may not be aligned correctly or the starter could be loose.

another thing is I dont think the battery was fully charged.the motor did not turn over the way I thought it should. Would that cause the low reading? Maybe the bendix is damaged and not turning flywheel as quickly as it should. I am going to check the motor again..

yes that would cause a low reading. charge the battery and try again.
