As I wrote earlier, the prop on my engine is gone (engine revs up but won't increase in speed). Can I just go buy a new prop and put it on myself by removing the cotter key and nut and installing the new prop or is there something more complicated to it? Thanks for the previous responses to my questions.

It is like You wrote.
But new cotter pin preferably then (Yamaha orginal cotter pin to be sure it is right length).
And water resistant grease on prop shaft (the splines and thread). It is very easy to change prop. Use a piece of wood between prop and anticavitation plate (plate above prop) so You can get a "stop" when release the nut (and tighten it later). I have a Yamaha F115 (2003) myself and had my prop off for greasing before this season started.

Thanks for the info. Is there a plastic or rubber part in the prop that wears out and causes the prop not to spin in sync with the engine (spun prop). And is it in the prop or does it have to be installed separately.
thanks very much.

another option if your existing prop is in good condition is to have it rebushed.

the hub is the rubber piece you describe. the new prop will come complete. more and more i am seeing people use the merc "flo torq" hubs. its far easier to carry a spare hub onboard then another prop.
