Just on my last couple of trips, I have noticed a strange power loss. When starting my motor, it will only turn over once and then nothing. My GPS, Sonar, etc. will also loose power and shut off when this happens. I let the key go back to the off position, wait a couple of seconds and then turn it to start and all is fine. This has been happening once a trip. The dealer is a long way to haul it to and will most likely need to keep the boat for at least a week. Anything I can look for myself?

Hi,

Bad battery or battery connections?
Check fluid level in battery cells - low?
(if low fill with destilled water so it is above plates if You have that type of battery)

Charge the battery and see if that helps.

Some cell in battery is weak? There are battery testers (hydrometers) where you can test the fluid in a cell and it can tell if that cell is "bad".

I believe there is a voltmeter (BATT) in the Yamaha digital speedometer, use mode button until BATT is selected. How many volts does it show before You try to start the engine (the battery has been at rest for some hours)?
As a rule of thumb, a healty unloaded battery should have about this voltage:

12,72 volt = 100% battery capacity (Ah) left
12,54 volt = 75 % left
12,36 volt = 50 % left
12,18 volt = 25 % left
11,82 volt = empty

Or use a digital multimeter and measure volt directly at the battery poles.

Do You have a main switch that cut off all electrical with a (usually plastic) key?? Check the connections there. Any problem?
If You have a "cheap" main switch consider get a quality one.
