Found a good deal on a '05 df140 and don't know anybody who has one,any input?I'd like to see a dyno sheet on one.The spec's lead me to think it might be a little shy on torque.

thanks!

Re: '05 df140 suzuki input

If i had the money i would buy on.

i never heard a smoother running engine than this suzuki 140.

this motor is absolutly the 4 stroke workhorse.
the regular maintenence is very easy.
the only thing negative about it is these motors are very battery voltage sensitive.
as soon as you have a low battery the ECU will send all sorts of codes to your tachometer.
other than that its a bulletproof four stroke.
very reliable and Easy to work on.
comparing to hondas or verados i would get a sukini. Yamaha would be my second choise.

Re: '05 df140 suzuki input

If I wanted an outboard in that power range the DF140 would be at the top of my list.

Yes, it is small displacement for a 140. It needs to turn 6000rpm to make peak power and makes less low speed torque than other 140s and a lot less than most 150s.

But it is a sweet, smooth, user friendly engine that is up to 100# lighter than other engines in its power range, so less torque at low rpm probably doesn't matter much. It doesn't to me.

I have an 06 DF140. No problems, but only got it last summer and have only put 30 hours it.

Like one of the other posters noted, a lot of the power is in the high RPM range. If I had it to over I would probably go with a V6 (its on a 2400 pound boat so I'm a tad under-powered). If 140 is as high as you want to go, this is your motor though. Best weight to power ratio out there.
